Ridged Ammonite - Douvilleiceras sp.
The Science
These Ammonites are from the Douvilleiceras sp. They were found in Madagascar. They are estimated to be approximately 100 million years old, which places them in the Cretaceous Period.
The Story
Ammonites from this species were found worldwide, which is remarkable during this period of continental drift. These Ammonites are sometimes called "tractors" in reference to their knobby shell, which was specially-developed to protect them from their harsh environment. These Ammonites are rare and we find that they are often unavailable.
